Mariana Berec focuses on applied design and jewellery. She often experiments and works with non-traditional materials and techniques. She sees design as a discipline through which she can explore current topics. Her jewellery is characterised by minimalistic approach and clean geometry, which she intentionally disrupts. Besides traditional jewellery, she also designs objects and installations.
Čo je najlepšie na tom byť šperkárkou?
Každý deň je to trochu iné. Raz cítim veľkú radosť z toho, že mám úplne voľnú pracovnú dobu, inokedy cítim, že to má aj svoje nevýhody, keď pracujem 14 hodín denne. Teší ma, keď na sebe vidím progres, a keď sa zlepšujú moje technické zručnosti. Niektoré veci, pri ktorých som voľakedy preplakala celé hodiny, dnes zvládam bez problémov. A najväčším zadosťučinením je, keď stretnem na ulici niekoho, kto nosí moje šperky.
Skús popísať proces tvorby, napríklad prsteňa. Čo ťa na ňom baví najviac?
Ak ide o prsteň na objednávku, najprv so zákazníkom preberieme jeho vkus a preferencie. Na základe toho pripravím prvé skice a návrhy v kove a tie si spolu opäť prejdeme. Zákazník si z nich vyberie ten, ktorý sa mu najviac páči a ten ďalej spracujem až do podoby finálneho šperku. Občas sa mi pri takomto prístupe stane, že si zákazník nevyberie môjho favorita. Ja ho ale potom väčšinou spracujem do sériovej výroby, aby som oňho „neprišla“.
Druhú časť mojej práce tvoria prstene, ktoré mám v stálej ponuke, napríklad v slávici. Tie mám „predpripravené“ a upravujem pri nich väčšinou len veľkosť alebo nejaké drobné detaily. Veľkou výhodou je, že ich dobre poznám, mám ich otestované a viem, aké sú ich limity. Cítim sa potom istejšie, keď takýto prsteň odo mňa odchádza do sveta.
Ako sa najradšej dobíjaš?
Keď je pekné počasie, jazdím nakupovať materiál skútrom po centre Prahy a vtedy si predstavujem, že som na dovolenke niekde v Toskánsku. Takže mentálne som na dovolenke tak dvakrát do týždňa.
Ale keď mám všetkého plné zuby, vybehnem na kopec za domom, kde máme starú kaplnku s lavičkou a nádherným výhľadom. Inokedy si zabehám alebo pohrabem lístie alebo upracem záhradu po nájazde diviakov.
Čo si si priala a nakoniec sa ti to splnilo?
Priala som si, aby ma moja práca dokázala uživiť, čo sa mi už pár rokov darí. Ďalším snom, o ktorom som ani nevedela, bola moja mačka Čiči.
Aký názov by si dala súčasnému obdobiu svojej tvorby a prečo?
Mojou srdcovou záležitosťou je teraz kolekcia Bezier inšpirovaná Bézierovou krivkou. Náušnice z tejto kolekcie pracujú s krivkami tela, „omotávajú sa“ okolo uší svojho majiteľa. Je v nich niečo veľmi prirodzené, ale aj výnimočné a extravagantné. Toto spojenie ma teraz veľmi fascinuje a chcela by som naň ďalej nadviazať.
