Peter Korček: Railway stations

82 book & design shop
82 book & design shop

"7 stories, 54 railway stations, 151 large-format color photographs. In his latest book, photographer Peter Korček captures the colourful but disappearing world of old railway stations in Slovakia.

Architecturally unique buildings decorated with monumental art are disappearing under the onslaught of visual smog, cheap renovations and growing families of indoor plants. Just like the stations, which are often a kind of collage of opposites, seven different authors, each with their own style, will guide you through our country from west to east. Tamara Šimončíková Heribanová, Andrej Dorsian Kiszling, Katarína Barošová, Marek Adamov, Tomáš Vizingr, Agda Bavi Pain and Michal Hvorecký will join you in the wagons with their stories for a moment. Enjoy!

The Lake

Han Donau
Han Donau

"You are a tiny lake, you are shaped like an egg. At a depth of thirty meters, not far from your deepest point, there lives an orange fish. Right at the bottom and no one can catch it."

Picturebook Lake is a poetic and subtle work of art in which deep and intimate images are combined with minimalistic text. At first glance, the simple story deceives the body; in fact, it is a universal philosophical reflection on how we cope with change or loss. Paintings with distinctive handwriting guide the reader through a dreamland with a unique atmosphere in which one can get lost, but also find himself. The Lake is a book that is not enough just to read. It's worth keeping it close at hand and reaching for it whenever we don't understand each other.

Bratislava Modern Fountains

Archimera
Archimera

The book Bratislava Modern Fountains maps the city's fountains built between 1960 and 1990. In addition to the iconic ones such as the Družba fountain or the Vejárová fountain, the publication presents dozens of small abandoned fountains that are mostly unknown or known only to residents of housing estates. Architecture theorist Martin Zaiček, graphic artist Katarína Knežníková and photographer Andrea Kalinová in a creative tandem interpret and record the current state and quality of Bratislava's fountains. Through the author's manuscript, they reveal the poetics and the "other" side of well-known and lesser-known works.

Hardness & Blackness
Hardness & Blackness

The poetic and charming book is a joint work of the artists Brona Schragge and Slavomíra Ondrušová, which consists of their drawings and short texts. These are not outright poems – but rather extremely sensitive words (sometimes only in one sentence) accompanied by ink drawings. The book was created as a result of their long-term connection, a strong bond of friendship. Thanks to it, they react to each other creatively and their outputs can form a strong and compact statement – whether they are ink illustrations or short text forms reminiscent of poems. Both are complemented by graphic processing by Boris Meluš.
