Han was driven to illustration thanks to her studies at Vienna based art school Die Angewandte. She works digitally with vector drawing, painting and collage-making. Her favourite topics are cities and dreams, while dreamy, simple and melancholic atmosphere is essential to her work. Under her brand Han Illu, she focuses on editorial and book illustration.
Darí sa ti okamžite ponoriť do práce?
Vôbec nie. Moja myseľ neustále blúdi a musím ju najprv trochu unaviť, kým sa začne sústrediť na to, čo potrebujem. Aj časový tlak funguje, pokúšam sa však trénovať, aby som tvorila v nejakom pravidelnom čase a šlo to jednoduchšie aj bez neho.
Čo pre teba a tvoju tvorbu znamená Dunaj?
Dve mestá, kde som doma – Bratislavu a Viedeň – spájam ja a Dunaj. Prežila som väčšinu života v jeho blízkosti. Sme dlhoroční priatelia, taktiež moje prvé ilustrácie boli k príbehu „O Dunaji“, ktorý som v roku 2017 napísala.
Dunaj sa neustále mení a pritom je to stále tá istá rieka. Seba vnímam podobne.
Skús mi popísať proces tvorby ilustrácie. Čo ťa na ňom najviac baví?
Ilustráciu chápem ako formu vizuálnej odpovede na hádanku, ktorou je napríklad text. Snažím sa prísť na to, ako vystihnúť jeho podstatu pomocou farieb a tvarov či symbolov, ak sa dá, tak čo najčistejšie. Veľa o zadaniach premýšľam, vždy najprv skicujem ceruzkou na papier. Moja ruka má vlastný rozum, sama čosi vytvára a ja ju sledujem. Keď som spokojná, prekreslím nápad do počítača a tam ďalej experimentujem, až kým to nie je ono. Je to ako alchýmia, nikdy dopredu neviem, ako to nakoniec dopadne.
Ako najradšej tráviš čas sama so sebou?
Rada chodím na dlhé prechádzky mestom. V tom mi chýba Viedeň – dalo sa ísť hodiny a vždy sa zjavila nová neznáma ulička, do ktorej sa dalo odbočiť. Chodím rada sama do kina a rada čítam. Najobľúbenejší čas so sebou je však, keď spím a snívajú sa mi sny. Sú väčšinou veľmi živé a rozkošatené, sú dni, kedy sa vyslovene teším, až budem môcť zaspať a zistím, čo sa dnes premieta.
Okrem ilustrácie pracuješ v kníhkupectve. Ktorá kniha sa ťa naposledy dotkla a čím?
Objavila som americkú autorku Jenny Offill a jej staršiu knihu Odd. špekulácií, ktorá nedávno vyšla v reedícií vydavateľstva Inaque. Nebavia ma klasické romantické príbehy, pretože mi prídu predvídateľné a nerealistické, a práve preto sa mi páči toto rozprávanie o láske bez priameho rozprávania o láske. Hovorí o všedných veciach, ale tým, ako si ich všíma, z nich robí niečo poetické a výnimočné. Kniha má formu fragmentárnych „denníkových“ zápiskov - bizarných, trefných, cynických a vtipných pozorovaní, na pozadí ktorých sa odohráva jej vzťah. Takéto experimentálne texty, kde je človeku ponechaný aj priestor na vlastné asociácie a interpretáciu, sú pre mňa veľkou inšpiráciou.
