IN THE STUDIO | FRAELA
It has been a few years since our owner Ivica was approached by a starting cosmetics brand to lend her face and lips to a raspberry shade of natural lipstick. That's how we met this creative duo - Mariana, who creates magic with ingredients in the manufactory, and Adriana, who with her unique eye creates the brand's visual language and communication. We really enjoy witnessing their journey from the beginning. Those years ago, we even planned a special pop-up at our store where we wanted to introduce you the brand. Well, man proposes, covid disposes. :) Despite this, they managed to grow extensively, cooperate with many interesting women and brands, undergo a successful rebranding and expand their portfolio with other decorative products. Meet the two inspiring women behind the brand!
How do you enjoy working as a duo? What is the best thing about it and, on the contrary, the biggest challenge?
Mariana: Since we have been friends for 20 years, we work great together. We complement each other at work, and since we know each other well, we trust each other. The biggest challenge is not to chat and focus on the work. :)
Adriana: We complement each other, and without one or the other, Fraela would not be what it is now. When Mariana formulates new recipes, I am the taster. When we shoot new campaigns, Mariana is the one who holds the reflector and makes a good mood. I can't even imagine working alone anymore, I like working in pair - we can share the worry, but also the joy of the moments.
Try to describe the process of creating a lipstick. What do you enjoy the most?
Mariana: I would compare the production of lipstick to the production of chocolate or candy. We weigh the raw materials, melt them and pour them into the mold. Then we put them into a tube. As for the creation of new shades, we always try to look at the demand of our customers, but also at the preferences of our chosen representative of the shade. We'll mix a few shades and then send it to her. If she does not choose, we make changes based on her feedback so that she is satisfied. We prefer personal meetings with those women. Since we always choose women that are inspiring to us, this meeting is always a great kick-off and inspiration boost.
Adriana: I enjoy the selection of shades the most. As we sit outside in front of our manufactory on the steps, drink coffee, the sun is shining and we can look at something that is just beginning to emerge slowly and that no one knows about yet... That is an exceptionally peaceful moment. After that, usually a lot of work and hustle comes.
Do you have your own cosmetic hack?
Mariana: The highlighter above the lip visually enlarges the lips and helps emphasize their shape.
Adriana: Like many of our customers, I also like to mix two different shades of lipstick.
What drives you?
Mariana: Nice messages from our customers that assure us we are moving in the right direction.
Adriana: The knowledge that we can work on something of our own which we can manage, design and create. And that we can adapt our work to our lives, not the other way around.
What are you dreaming about?
Mariana: I really enjoy Fraela. To me, it represents freedom at work and I would like for it to work as long as possible.
Adriana: I feel like I'm living the dream right now. So I dream of being able to dream every day and keep fulfilling that dream at the same time. :)
